Description
Alderwasley Lodge is a lodge that underwent enlargement in the mid-19th century, originally based on an earlier structure. It is built from coursed squared gritstone with coped gables, except on the west side, and features an intermediate stack off the ridge with diagonally set coupled stone pots. The roof is covered with stone slates and plain tiles. The building has an 'L' plan and reflects the local 17th-century vernacular style.
The east elevation has two storeys and two bays, with an advanced gable at the north end. The ground floor includes a canted bay with mullions and transoms beneath a shallow pitched roof. Above this is a two-light chamfer mullioned window with a hoodmould that has stops. The south bay features two semi-circular headed arches on the ground floor, separated by a plain square pillar, creating an arcaded porch that leads to the entrance, which has a six-panelled door.
A former single-storey outhouse to the west has been raised to two storeys and is now part of the dwelling. This restoration took place in 1984.
