Description
Whatstandwell Bridge is a road bridge dated 1796, located in the parishes of Crich and Alderwasley. It features a triple-arched design made of ashlar gritstone, with semi-circular arches that rise from semi-circular cutwaters topped with domed heads. A broad band runs along the arch heads, and above this is a parapet constructed of massive ashlar. Pilaster strips extend from the cutwater heads and are also incorporated into the parapet. At both ends of the ashlar bridge, there are arched approaches made of coursed rubble gritstone, which have lower parapets finished with half round copings.
