Description

The Canal Bridge is a late 18th-century overbridge made of coursed rubble gritstone. It features a single semi-circular arch with roughly shaped voussoirs, but it does not have a keyblock. Above the arch head, there is a plain band, and the bridge has shallow rubble parapet walls topped with half round copings. The structure tapers in width from west to east and has splayed abutments. The Cromford Canal, which this bridge crosses, was opened in 1793 and was engineered by William Jessop.
