1/10002 Perimeter walls and railings at east end of Oakham Cemetery

GV II

Front boundary wall with end piers and railings. Probably original to the 1860 scheme by Pearson Bellamy and J Spence Hardy of Lincoln. Piers and plinth wall of ironstone with pale ashlar limestone dressings; cast-iron railings and standards. In 2 articulated sections flanking the Cemetery Lodge (q.v.): 11 panels of railings to left and 10 to right. Plinth wall has deeply-chamfered copings. Broad end piers with single, offset buttress and brattished copings. Railings: cusped tracery beneath a finialled mid-rail; top rail with spearhead spikes; intermediate bars with fleur de lys. Linking each panel of railings are square, open-work standards with tracery, brattished caps and 3- dimensional fleur de lys finials.
