Description
21 and 23 Northgate are an early 18th-century pair of houses and a shop, forming one building. The houses have two storeys with attics. They are constructed of ashlar stone, with rusticated quoins and a plinth with a stone band below the ground-floor window cills. A band divides the two storeys. The roof is slate, with stone-capped gable ends. There are five windows, with flush frames, segmental arches above them constructed with moulded brick keystones and stone cills. Number 21 has a 19th-century shop front with glazing bars. Number 23 has a 19th-century door with a rectangular fanlight. The windows now contain modern glass. A central door provides access to a passage, sharing the same architectural detailing as the windows. Nos 17 to 27 (odd) form a group.
