Description

The garden room, gateway, walls, and gate piers at Luffenham Hall date from the 18th century but have earlier origins. They are constructed of coursed rubble stone with a plain tile roof featuring stone coped gables and finials. The gateway is made of ashlar stone. The garden room is a single storey and includes a large wooden mullion window and a part-glazed door on the right end, which leads to steps down to the basement, previously the burial vault of the Digby family. A wall extends from the left end of the room and bends towards the rear. In the angle of the wall, there is a pedestrian gateway with a Gibbs surround. The wall continues towards the front of the Hall and bends again to create low forecourt walls, which are intersected by two pairs of gate piers. One pair is tall with rusticated stonework, ogee tops, and balls, while the other pair is shorter and also topped with balls. Balls are placed at intervals along the wall.
