Description
The garden wall and gate piers likely date to the late 18th century and have undergone repairs. The wall is constructed of rubble limestone with a brick inner skin, featuring ashlar copings. It originally enclosed the polygonal site of Barnburgh Hall and its gardens, though the hall itself was demolished. The wall follows a south and east boundary, with gate piers marking the driveway. There is a break in the wall at the northeast corner, near where the hall stood. The inner and outer gate piers are rusticated and corniced, connected by low walls with saddleback copings. Parts of the wall contain blocked doorways; one on the east side of the gate shows quoined surrounds and a tripartite keystone, while a north wall doorway has a triangular head and a carved panel depicting sea creatures. Two corniced piers are integrated into the east section of the wall.
