Description
The outbuilding located immediately to the north-east of Hickleton House is a barn and outbuilding that is now partly used as stables. It dates from the 17th century, with an addition from the 18th century on the right side. The structure is built from irregularly-coursed rubble sandstone and features stone-slate and 20th-century cement-tile eaves courses on pantile roofs. The barn is two storeys high and has large quoins. There is a central waggon entrance with a segmental arch that has chamfered ashlar voussoirs, along with a hatch and an inserted casement window with glazing bars to the right. The building has shaped kneelers and square-cut gable copings. The lower two-storey addition, which is set back to the right, has a wide central doorway with a 20th-century door. There are blocked doorways at each end that feature monolithic jambs and deep lintels, with the doorway to the right now having a 20th-century casement. Additionally, there are 20th-century casements on the inner side of each blocked doorway, with similar windows above. This outbuilding is included for its group value with Hickleton House.
