Description
The dovecote at Old Prebendal House, which was formerly a chapel, dates back to medieval times and is marked with the year 1619. It is constructed from coursed rubble stone and ashlar, topped with a bell-cast Collyweston slate roof. The building faces the stable yard and consists of one storey, featuring a door framed by a 19th-century brick surround. Above the door is a stone tablet inscribed with 'Regedin?Ano.Dmi. 1619'. On the right side, there is a small window in the rebuilt gable end, while the rear has a blocked window and three stepped buttresses. Additionally, there is a small section of ashlar walling and a lean-to. Inside, the dovecote has rows of holes around all four sides and a renewed single purlin roof with three bays. The date inscribed may indicate when the earlier chapel was converted into a dovecote.
