Description
Dove Cottage is a former dovecote that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the 16th century but was altered into a residence in the late 19th century, with additional extensions added to the north and east in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of narrow red brick in English bond, featuring blue headers in a diaper pattern. It has a steep red tile hipped roof with large gablets on the east and west sides, which are currently covered in pargetting but once had entrances for doves.
The structure is two stories tall and square in shape, with a projecting plinth and a roof height that matches the building's height minus the plinth. An 1830 drawing by Buckler shows the entrance located in the middle of the north side, along with a continuous eaves cove that has since been removed. The main facade now faces west and includes a central three-light casement window on the first floor, with a similar window to the left of the door. Both ground floor openings feature cambered arches with projecting brick labels. The entrance is a half-glazed plank door, and the plinth is chamfered and offset. There is a central internal chimney. The cottage is situated next to the priory stew-pond.
