Description
This is an early 19th-century terrace of houses located on Upper King Street, extended to include number 8 Tower Street. The range is three storeys high and built of stucco. The facade is divided by paired pilasters adorned with anthemion details. Two moulded stucco bands run throughout the building. Numbers 11 to 29 have a modillion eaves cornice. Numbers 21 to 29 lack modillions, and the cornice projects forward over the pilasters, with a small panelled parapet above. Windows are set within moulded shouldered architraves, and are mostly sash windows with glazing bars, although numbers 21 to 27 lack these bars. Numbers 9, 11, and 27, and number 8 Tower Street feature pilastered doorcases with hoods supported by console brackets and rectangular fanlights. The remaining properties have recessed pairs of doors with segmental, plain arched entrances. The doors are generally five-panel designs, also with rectangular fanlights, though numbers 15 to 25 have been replaced with modern glazed doors. Each doorway has blind panels on each storey above the entrance. The end elevations of numbers 11 and number 8 Tower Street incorporate three windows, some of which are blind, and are designed to match the rest of the terrace. Numbers 1 to 29 (odd) and number 8 Tower Street form a cohesive group.
