Description
Nos 47 to 51 on Friar Gate is a late 18th-century building featuring a symmetrical facade constructed from ashlar stone. The central section, which is pedimented and projects forward, has three windows. The building stands three storeys high and has eleven windows in total, with those on the ground and first storeys adorned with cornices. The central windows feature alternating triangular and segmental pediments. The ends and center of the building are accentuated by rusticated quoins. There are projecting rectangular porches that include pilasters, a frieze, and cornices, along with round-headed openings and a recessed dome. The facade is decorated with an ornamental frieze and eaves, topped by a dentilled eaves cornice that runs across the entire elevation. A plain stone balustrade extends over the forecourt, except in front of Nos 47 and 48. This building forms part of a group with Nos 27 to 32, the Friar Gate Railway Bridge, Nos 35 to 39, and Nos 41 to 51 on Friar Gate, as well as No 47 on Ford Street.
