Description

The Masons Arms is a public house located on Bell Lane in Ackworth Moor. It is dated 1682 on the lintel of the door, although the building is primarily from the late 18th century and has been altered and enlarged over time. The structure is built from coursed sandstone blocks and features a stone slate roof.

The building has a T-plan layout, consisting of a five-bay front range with a rear wing. It stands two storeys high and includes five first-floor windows. The doorway, located at the junction of the third and fourth bays, has a chamfered surround, which has been restored above the two lowest courses that feature chamfer stops. The lintel above the door is inscribed with "1682" and has a hoodmould above it. A large signboard is positioned above the door.

The fenestration is irregular, with seven windows on the ground floor (four to the left and three to the right) and five on the first floor (three to the left and two to the right). All windows have plain surrounds with large rectangular heads and vary in size and glazing. The ground floor includes horizontal-sliding sashes with two, two, and three lights, while the first floor has windows with two, three, three, and three lights. The roof is hipped at the left end and features coped gables with kneelers at the right-hand end. A brick chimney is located on the ridge in line with the door.

The two-bay rear wing has a doorway flanked by two windows on the ground floor and two square windows above. The right-hand windows are two-light horizontal-sliding sashes, while the others have been altered. Inside, there are some stop-chamfered beams, although the interior has otherwise been altered.
