Description
The barn forming the north side of the farmyard at Horncastle Farm is a Grade II listed building, likely dating from the late 18th century and altered over time. It is constructed of brick and features roofs made of stone slate and some Welsh slate. The barn has a rectangular five-bay plan.
The north elevation, which may have been designed to be visually striking, is symmetrical and includes a two-storey gabled center. This center features a segmental-headed wagon doorway with a triple-recessed round-headed arch, topped by a segmental-headed panel. Above this is a simple dentilled pediment that contains a blind oculus. The side ranges of the barn have giant recessed round-headed arches with a single-course impost band, segmental-headed panels or windows above this band, and various altered or inserted windows at the lower level. Notably, there is a tall loading door in the first bay to the right. The barn also has a dentilled eaves cornice and stone gable copings. Other elevations have not been inspected.
