Description

The lodge to the former Elmsall Lodge, along with its associated gatepiers and railings, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed from dressed sandstone and features a slate roof. The building has a T-shaped plan beneath a square roof that projects over a bay. Facing the drive, there is a canted bay with three two-centred arched two-light windows that include Y-tracery. A doorway is located in the left return wall of the projection, with another doorway in the set-back main wall to the right of the projection. The roof is pyramidal with a low pitch and has oversailing eaves, which are supported by a column at the right front corner and a post at the other corner. A central chimney features two octagonal flues. The lodge is accompanied by a set of four square gate piers with panelled sides, each topped with wreaths; the pier on the right of the main gate is damaged and heavily weathered. The iron spear railings include spear-headed dog bars, and both gates have been replaced.
