Description
Kirkbank is a farmhouse built around 1700, with some alterations. It features coursed squared sandstone and a slate roof, along with a brick chimney. The building has a three-unit lobby-entry plan and stands three storeys high with three bays. The doorway is located at the junction of the second and third bays, accessed by three steps, with a very small window above it. To the left of the door are two square windows, and to the right is one more, all with raised sills, altered glazing, and louvred pseudo-shutters. The first floor has four similar windows, with two located in the first bay. The second floor includes two small recessed two-light mullioned windows. The roof has raised verges, a brick chimney on the ridge aligned with the door, and a stone chimney at the left gable. There is a single-bay addition at the right-hand end that is not of special interest. The rear of the building has similar second-floor windows, one of which is blocked. Inside, there are a series of four large lateral beams on the ground and first floors, a very large chimney stack, and a lime-ash floor in the storage attic.
