Description
School House is a former parish meeting room, now a dwelling, dated 1826 on the first floor, with a later addition. It is built of coursed squared sandstone and has a slate roof. The building has an L-plan layout, consisting of a single-depth main range with a receding side wing added at the right-hand end. It is one and two storeys high.
The entrance is located next to the wing on the right-hand side, featuring a raised plain surround, with a six-pane sash window above it. To the left of the entrance, there are two large twenty-five-pane sash windows with raised sills and rectangular lintels. Between and above these windows is a roundel with a worn inscription that reads: "Erected by Contribution under the munificent PATRONAGE OF Earl Fitzwilliam 1826." The gabled wing at the right-hand end projects slightly and has a twelve-pane sash window on the ground floor and a round-headed sash window on the first floor, which features radiating glazing bars. There is a chimney on the ridge of the main range aligned with the door, and another on the ridge of the wing.
The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
