Description
7 and 9 Lyddon Terrace are a pair of houses built around 1839, with alterations made in the 20th century. They were likely constructed for Thomas Taylor, a machine maker. The houses are made of red brick in Flemish bond and have a slate roof. They are two stories tall with a basement, each house featuring two bays and an entrance on the left side. There are three stone steps leading up to a four-panel door with an overlight, set in a stone surround that has a cornice supported by consoles. The ground floor windows have stone sills, while the first floor has a continuous sill band and rubbed brick arches. No. 7 (on the left) has plate glass windows, while No. 9 features 16-pane and glazing-bar sashes. The end stacks are positioned on the ridge, with center stacks located both forward and rear of the ridge. The interior has not been inspected. These houses were originally part of a terrace of five, likely built for James Taylor, a machine maker who lived at No. 1, which has since been demolished. The pair is included for their group value.
