Description

Numbers 11 and 13 are a pair of houses with area railings, built in 1825 and altered in the 20th century. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and topped with a slate roof, featuring wrought-iron railings. The houses are three storeys high with a basement and each has five windows across the front with a central entrance. Stone steps lead up to a six-panelled door that has a semicircular overlight, framed by a stone surround with Doric half-columns and open pediments. Number 13 has sash windows with glazing bars, while the windows on the left have later replacements. The interior has not been inspected. The railings are plain with slightly thickened standards and pointed finials. These houses were the first in the terrace, built for Julia Lyddon, the estate owner, and originally had kitchen cellars and open views to the south. The first tenants were Robert Frost, who was of independent means at No. 11, and William Willcock, the collector of Stamp Duties for the Borough at No. 13, who moved from Hanover Square.
