Description
The University of Leeds Staff Social Club is a pair of semi-detached houses built between 1847 and 1849, now serving as a university social club. Constructed from red brick with stone details and a slate roof, the buildings are two stories tall and are designed as a mirrored pair. Each house features three first-floor windows and an entrance located in the outer bay. The design includes quoins, four-panel doors with overlights set within a Classical surround that has consoles and a corniced pediment. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, stone sills, and flat brick arches, with a sill band at the first floor. The eaves cornice is prominent, and there is a central stack that projects forward of the ridge. On the right side, there is a round-arched stair window and a sash window with glazing bars that lights the garret. The interior has not been inspected. The houses were built on land from the Lyddon Estate, and their first occupants included a cloth manufacturer and a commission agent.
