Description

This is a milestone located approximately 300 meters north of the entrance to Woodlands, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It features an arched stone structure that is overlaid with cast iron and has a triangular cross-section. The letters on the milestone are in relief. The top of the milestone reads "LEEDS & BIRSTAL ROAD GILDERSOME." The left face indicates "HUDDERSFIELD 11 MILES," while the right face shows "LEEDS 4 MILES" and "BIRSTAL 2¼ MILES." It also bears the makers' mark of Brayshaw and Booth from Liversedge.
