Description
Rose Cottage is a house located on Town Street in Gildersome, built in 1760 and constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a rendered finish. The building features a 20th-century tile roof and is designed with two storeys and a two-cell direct-entry plan. The symmetrical facade has three bays and is accented by rusticated quoins. The doorway has raised surrounds with interrupted jambs, a chamfered surround, and a cornice with casement moulding. Above the doorway is a date plaque with an oculus. On both floors, there are two-light flat-faced mullioned windows with recessed mullions that retain their original four-pane sashes. The gables are coped with shaped kneelers and truncated stacks. At the rear, there is an added cell from around 1978 that is in keeping with the original design.
Inside, the parlour features a doorway with an eared architrave and a six-panelled door, which has been replaced. Another room contains a stop-chamfered spine beam and square floor joists.
