Description

Springfield House is a millowner's residence built in the early to mid-19th century. It features well-coursed dressed stone and a Welsh blue-slate roof. The house has two storeys and a symmetrical five-bay facade, with an additional bay on the left that matches the original design. The central three bays project forward beneath a pedimented gable. There is a plinth and a band running along the facade. A Doric porch with an entablature, dentil cornice, and blocking course leads to an inner doorway that has a fanlight within an architrave. Above this doorway is a sash window. The other bays contain sash windows with flat stone arches and projecting sills, featuring 15-pane sashes on the ground floor and 12-pane sashes on the first floor. The roof is hipped and has two ridge stacks, along with another stack at the left end. At the rear, there is a tall stair window. The house is said to have been built for Maister John of Rods Mill.
