Description
Dawson House and the attached warehouse are a house and warehouse built in the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed of dressed stone with stone slate roofs and stand two storeys tall. The house features a three-bay symmetrical facade, with a doorway that has monolithic jambs and an overlight. Above the doorway and on either side are four-pane sash windows with raised plain surrounds. The house also has widely spaced paired gutter brackets and coped gables with stacks.
Attached to the rear of the house and flush with the right-hand return wall is a five-bay warehouse that has a lower roof. The central bay of the warehouse has doorways with tie-stone jambs on each floor, and a cat-head hoist projects from the roof above. The flanking bays contain windows with monolithic lintels and projecting sills, all retaining small-paned glazing, except for the second ground-floor bay, which has been altered to a door. There is a truncated central brick ridge stack.
This building is an interesting and complete example of a manager's house and warehouse and is prominent within the town.
