Description
Mill Farmhouse is a farm manager's house built in the early 19th century, consisting of two sections. It features hammer-dressed stone and a Welsh blue-slate roof, designed in the Regency Gothic style. The building is two storeys high and has a garden front with three bays, where the third bay is older and includes a rear entry. A plinth runs along the base. The central canted-bay window has a hoodmould, and all windows are small-paned Gothic glazed sashes. The first two bays have windows with double-chamfered surrounds, featuring an inner hollow chamfer and hoodmould, while the third bay has single-chamfered surrounds. The roof is hipped with oversailing eaves, and there is an end stack to the right along with two ridge stacks.
At the rear, the second and third bays project forward and contain a Tudor-arched doorway with a moulded surround and spandrels in the inner return. The windows at the rear match those at the front. The left-hand return has a similar doorway with a stair-window above it, while the right-hand return features a doorway with a stop-chamfered surround.
Inside, there is a long single-flight closed-string staircase with turned newels and stick balusters. Four bedrooms retain their original fireplaces, which have stone architraves, recessed friezes, and thin projecting shelves, along with well-decorated cast-iron gates. Mill Farmhouse is part of the Harewood Estate.
