Description

Cragg Hill Baptist Church, with Chapel Cottage attached, is a building from the early 19th century, specifically noted as being from 1803. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and features quoins and a stone slate roof. The chapel has a rectangular shape, with the dwelling house attached to its west gable wall, aligned on the same axis.

The south front of the chapel has two high storeys and four bays. It features a wide doorway at ground level, flanked by square windows, and above are four tall round-headed windows, all with raised plain surrounds. The north side has two very tall round-headed windows spanning two storeys, with first-floor windows similar to those at the front, and square cellar openings below.

Chapel Cottage, attached at the west end, presents a three-storey, three-bay gabled front facing the road. It has a central doorway, with a single-light window above, and coupled windows on each floor to the left. The second floor has three windows arranged as single, coupled, and single, all with raised plain surrounds. The cottage features a gable chimney and gable coping with returned ends. The right return wall, which is one bay flush with the chapel, has similar coupled windows on all floors. The left return wall, which angles away from the chapel, has a turn flight of cantilevered external steps leading to a second-floor door, protected by iron spear railings, and there is a blocked doorway to the chapel at the turning of the steps.
