Description
The Toll House to Iron Bridge, likely built in 1819 along with the bridge, is a two-storey structure made of coursed squared sandstone with a slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan formed by two connected two-unit ranges and is located at the north-east corner of the bridge, facing the bridge deck. The main facade features sill-bands on both storeys. On the ground floor, there is an altered tripartite opening on the left, where a doorway has been changed into a window with side windows, and the left side is blocked. To the right, there is patched masonry with an inserted window, possibly replacing similar former openings. The first floor has two Venetian windows, all with plain surrounds. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, with a chimney stack offset to the right. The left return wall includes a central doorway and two horizontal-rectangular windows on each floor, all with raised plain surrounds, and the windows have altered glazing. A modern lean-to garage is attached to the rear but is not included in the listing.
