Description
The war memorial at the junction with Fink Hill is a significant structure built in 1920, with additions made in 1947. It is constructed from ashlar and re-constituted stone, bronze, and iron. The main cenotaph, dedicated to the First World War, stands on a three-step base featuring a moulded plinth and inset bronze plaques on three visible sides. The front displays the dates 1914 - 1918 and 1939 - 1945 in bronze numbers. It is topped with a moulded cornice and has three chamfered steps supporting a central block adorned with a bronze wreath, flanked by pairs of Ionic columns, culminating in a three-step upper section.
In front of the cenotaph, the later Second World War memorial is represented by a re-constituted stone lectern with bronze memorial plaques positioned on the steps. The memorial is enclosed by a low stone boundary wall with iron piers and chains, as well as central gate-piers featuring a painted iron overthrow and gates.
