Description
Crag House, along with an attached barn and outbuilding, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building consists of a 2-storey, 2-bay house and a 3-bay barn that share a roof, with a narrower 2-bay stable and hay-loft set back to the right. The main range has quoins.
The house has a central half-glazed door with tie-stone jambs, flanked by flat-faced mullion windows; to the left is a 4-light window, while the right window has been reduced from 4 lights to 2. The first floor also features 4-light windows, with 2 mullions removed. There are end corniced stacks. The barn, built at the same time as the house, has a central cart entrance with quoined jambs and a segmental arch, a byre door to the right, and circular pitching eyes with projecting plain stone surrounds on both the left and right sides of the first floor. The main range is adorned with shaped kneelers and gable copings. The stable block includes a board door on the left in a plain stone surround and a straight flight of steps leading to a first-floor door with tie-stone jambs on the right.
