Description
Milestone located at the junction with Alwoodley Lane, dated either 1664 or 1764. Made of millstone grit, it stands approximately 1 meter high and 0.4 meters wide, featuring a semicircular top. The front has a smooth surface with incised lettering indicating distances to Leeds and Otley, while the back is roughly shaped. The inscriptions on the front face towards King Lane read: 'IB/ 1-64/ To Leedes/ 4 M (pointing hand)/ To Otley/ -5 M (pointing hand)'. The left side facing Alwoodley Lane states: 'To York/ 20 M (pointing hand)/ To/ Wether/ bey 9 M'. The right side has an inscription that reads ' (?) 1821 /GD'. It is likely that the milestone has been re-set but remains close to its original position.
