Description
The Maltings, Croft End Cottage, and Adel Mill at Adel Mill is a stable range, barn, and corn mill that has been converted into three houses. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone later alterations, with the conversion to housing occurring around 1990. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and features stone slate roofs and quoins.
The former stables, located on the right, are two storeys high and have three first-floor windows. They include a keyed round arch that once led to a passageway, with rounded stone reveals and tie-stone jambs around the doors and windows. To the left, projecting at right angles, is a three-storey mill building that has two-light mullioned windows and a blocked doorway that is reputed to have been inscribed 'W L 1764'. There is a lower two-storey linking bay with a loading door that has been converted into a window on the first floor, although the stone steps are missing. Additionally, there is a four-bay barn that has been divided into two houses, including Croft End Cottage, which features a segmental cart arch and tie-stone door jambs, along with gable coping.
Set back on the left and connected to the three-storey mill building by a modern screen wall, the main mill building has small windows and gable copings. The interior has not been inspected.
