Description
The Parish Hall, originally built as stables and a coach house around 1766, is located on Back Church Lane in Adel, Leeds. It may have been altered around 1819. The building is constructed from coursed squared gritstone with ashlar details and features stone slate roofs. The central block is a tall three-storey structure with a pediment, a segmental arch made of edge-tooled voussoirs, and a square window above. There is a Diocletian window in the pediment, with a sill band that extends around the eaves on the returns. The lower wings on either side are set back slightly and each has an elliptical window; they also feature a moulded eaves band and hipped roofs. 20th-century alterations include inserted windows flanking the archway, which has glazed doors, and stone additions to the rear. The hall is part of a larger group of service buildings that were originally built for Sandford Hardcastle and are situated around a yard behind Adel Rectory, now known as Ashling and Ashling Cottage.
