Description

Number 42 and flat is a house and flat dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed magnesian limestone with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with a one-storey, two-bay wing on the left side. It features large quoins and a central part-glazed door beneath a flat arch, flanked by 16-pane sash windows with projecting stone sills and flat arches. There are three similar windows on the first floor. The left addition has a blocked central doorway flanked by windows matching the rest of the building. The main house has shaped kneelers without gable copings and yellow-brick end stacks. This building served as the schoolmaster's house, with the left wing likely used as a schoolroom before the new village school was built in 1836. There is a 20th-century lean-to on the right return, which is not of special interest.
