Description

Nos 17 and 19 on The Village are a pair of cottages built in the mid-19th century for the Thorp Arch estate. They are constructed from coursed, squared magnesian limestone and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The cottages are two storeys high with attics and feature two windows on the first floor, creating a mirrored appearance. Each cottage has a door with an overlight beneath a plain lintel, leading to a 16-pane sash window with a projecting stone sill and lintel. The door to No 17 is part-glazed, while No 19 has a four-panel door. The first-floor windows are similar in design. The eaves overhang, and there is a central yellow brick ridge stack with six octagonal flues rising from a shared base. The side elevations have round-arched windows on the first floor and in the attic. These cottages are included for their group value.
