Description

A pair of cottages dating from the mid-19th century, built for the Thorp Arch estate. They are constructed from squared, coursed magnesian limestone with a Welsh slate roof. The cottages are two storeys and an attic, each originally with two windows on the first floor. They are arranged as a reflected pair. Each cottage features a panelled door with an overlight, set beneath a plain stone lintel. The door is flanked by 16-pane sash windows with projecting stone sills and lintels. Similar 16-pane sash windows are found on the first floor. The eaves overhang, and a central brick ridge stack with six octagonal flues rising from a shared base runs between the cottages. The left return side has round-arched windows to the first floor and the attic. The right return side includes a round-arched first-floor window and a Venetian-style attic window. The cottages are included in the list for their group value.
