Description
26 and 28 Cliffe Ash are two terraced weaver's houses built around 1845, possibly by Edwin Pearson, who lived in one of the houses in 1851. They are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature a stone slate roof with gable copings and stone brackets supporting the gutter. The front elevation has three storeys, while the rear has one storey. On the south side, each house has a large two-light stone mullioned window at ground level, and both the first and second floors have continuous eight-light stone mullioned windows with a continuous sill band. The north elevation includes an entrance and a four-light window for each house, with one window having two mullions removed. No 28 became the Golcar Socialist Club in 1907, the same year Victor Grayson was elected as Colne Valley's first socialist MP.
