Description

Mean Hey is a late 18th-century building, originally two cottages, with later barns added to each end. It is constructed of coursed rubble with some quoins, and has a pitched stone slate roof and two chimney stacks. The south elevation of the west cottage features a stone-surrounded entrance, a single three-light stone mullioned window, and another two-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor. Upstairs, there is an eight-light stone mullioned window. The east cottage has a stone-surrounded entrance and two three-light stone mullioned windows on the ground floor, and a single eight-light stone mullioned window above. The barn to the east has a stone-surrounded entrance with a small light above, set within a false arch. The barn to the west has a large doorway with a segmental arched head, a small entrance, and a small light with a stone surround and false arch at a high level. The north elevation includes entrances with stone surrounds and tiestones.
