Description
The Cock Ring is a building of mid to late 18th century origin, with a cottage added to the east during the early to mid 19th century. It was originally comprised of two cottages and a barn. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with the west gable rendered. Quoins are visible to the centre cottage at the east end. The roof is pitched and covered in slate.
The south elevation of the cottages features a recent doorway on the ground floor. One five-light stone mullioned window is recessed on the ground floor, while the first floor displays a former seven-light stone mullioned window, with two centre lights now blocked, and a single three-light stone mullioned window. The north elevation shows a three-light stone mullioned window to each floor of the easternmost cottage, with recent alterations made. The central cottage's ground floor has a slightly recessed two-light stone mullioned window, and the first floor features a two-light stone mullioned window with chamfered surrounds and mullion. A modern lean-to extension adjoins the east gable.
The barn’s south elevation includes a later doorway with a steel lintel and breaks forward with a catslide roof. The north elevation has a small doorway with stone surrounds and chamfered reveals on the ground floor, and a single two-light stone mullioned window with chamfered surrounds and mullion. Two small windows with semicircular arched heads are positioned at high level.
