Description

Wood End Farm is a farmhouse dating from 1626, constructed of thinly coursed rubble with struck pointing and quoins, and part rendered. It features a pitched stone slate roof with coped gables that are chamfered on millstone grit footstones, and has finials on the copings at the footstones and apex. The building is two storeys high.

On the southeast gable, the ground floor has a doorway with a massive lintel inscribed with the date 1626. The lintel is slightly arched and has chamfered reveals. There is a former early doorway on the northeast side that is part blocked, featuring a large slightly arched head with quoins and chamfered reveals. A notable feature is a 5-light stone mullioned window with double chamfering and round-headed lights, which has a hood above with a square stop at each end. On the first floor, there is a 4-light stone mullioned window, also double chamfered, with a hood mould that has squared stops. Additionally, there is a former 2-light stone mullioned window that is now blocked and of later date.

On the southwest elevation, the ground floor has two 3-light stone mullioned windows, both double chamfered, with hood moulding that has square stops at each end. The first floor contains one 3-light stone mullioned window (double chamfered), one single light (double chamfered), and one later single light. The northwest gable features an external central gable stack that rakes inwards towards the top, with the top of the stack made of brick and a breast that has quoins, along with a later single window.
