Description
Nos. 2, 4, 6, and 8 Station Road are four industrial or warehouse buildings dating from around 1870, featuring a Classical facade. The facade is made of ashlar with rusticated quoins and has a pitched slate roof with a console bracketed eaves cornice and a blocking course. The buildings rise to three storeys and have a continuous band and cornice between the ground and first floor. The symmetrical facade consists of eight bays, with the two central bays projecting forward.
There are two large round arched doorways, each with panelled doors and a fanlight, surrounded by pilasters with foliated capitals. The spandrels above the doorways are intricately carved with serpents, dragons, and foliage, while the keystones feature well-carved figure heads. The two central first-floor windows echo the design of the doorways. The left and right wings of the building are identical, each comprising three bays with a central door that has a simpler treatment of spandrels and a plain keystone. Round arched windows are present on both sides, with ashlar aprons, and the first-floor windows match those below. The second-floor windows have shallow segmental heads and architraves.
