SE 10 NE STONEY BANK LANE 5/305 (New Mill)

Stoney Bank Cottage and Barn

House and adjoining barn. C17 or early C18 with slightly later addition to left. Hammer dressed stone. Quoins. Stone slate roof. Two ashlar stacks with plinth and string. Two storeys. Gabled wing to left with entrance in small gabled stone porch with finial. To left of doorway is cross-window. One 6-light mullioned and transomed double chamfered window to first floor. Plaque in gable apex. To right is 8-light mullioned and transomed double chamfered window to ground floor and 3-light double chamfered window to first floor. To extreme left is slightly later addition with stone porch and external stack with offsets (some rebuilding suspected). Rear elevation is altered. Left gable has 2-light double chamfered window with hood mould to both floors. Adjoining to left is former barn of similar date with later outshut to rear. Chamfered ventilation slits, with false arches, to both gables. One former large entrance, part blocked and one modern garage door. Barn included for group value.
