Description
Higher Barn is a house and adjoining barn, originally dated to 1728, as indicated by the inscription "IB NB 1728" on the door lintel, although it has undergone later additions and alterations. The structure is built from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. It consists of two bays and two storeys, with a barn wing extending to the rear left and a small 18th-century addition to the right gable. The building has quoins and a projecting plinth.
In the first bay, there are three and four-light windows that have double-chamfered mullions, which are 20th-century replacements. The second bay features a five-light window (extended to seven) and a four-light window, both with double-chamfered cavetto-moulded mullions. The building has gable chimney stacks and includes two and three-light gable windows, as well as a gable entrance with a dated lintel that is obscured by a later addition. The rear of the building has similar two and three-light windows, along with a 20th-century window. The barn itself has a segmental-headed barn door and a chamfered segmental-headed shippon door.
