Description
Higher Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse that features the inscription "TM 1701" (Thomas Mills) on the door lintel. It was extended in the early 18th century and altered in the later 18th century. The building is constructed of watershot squared rubble and has a graduated stone slate roof. It consists of three bays and two storeys, with quoins and a projecting plinth. The main entrance door, which has a dated lintel and dressed surround, is flanked by a blocked three-light window on the left and a four-light window on the right, both featuring double-chamfered cavetto-moulded mullions. The first floor has four and five-light flat-faced mullion windows. The first bay has been raised in height. The rear of the farmhouse includes four, six, and four-light double-chamfered windows on the ground floor, although the central window now has flat-faced mullions. The first floor has recessed flat-faced mullion windows with four and five lights, and a three-light double-chamfered window. The door in the third bay has a chamfered surround. The roof features ridge and gable chimney stacks, and there are two-light openings in the gable ends, some of which are blocked.
