Description
Lower Grange is a house located on Millcroft Lane in Saddleworth. It dates from the mid-17th century and underwent significant alterations in the 18th century, which included changes to the front and the addition of an outshut at the rear. The building is constructed from irregularly coursed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. It has three bays and two storeys, with an outshut at the back. The corners of the building are marked by quoins.
The first two bays have ground floor windows with five and six lights, which are recessed and have flat-faced stone mullions. On the first floor, there are similar windows with three and seven lights. The third bay is of a later date and includes a door next to a three-light double-chamfered mullion window, along with a five-light flat-faced mullion window on the first floor. The house has a projecting gable chimney stack and a ridge chimney stack. At the rear, there are two and three-light double-chamfered mullion windows, as well as one and two-light recessed flat-faced mullion windows. The later outshut conceals an arched light.
