Description
Barclay's Bank is a bank building designed in the Italianate Palazzo style, constructed in the late 19th century. It features ashlar stonework with rustication and vermiculation on the ground floor. The building has three storeys and is organized into five bays by three bays, with a moulded and dentilled cornice at the eaves and above the ground floor. The entrance is located in a sixth, simpler bay that is set back to the left of the main facade.
The ground floor windows are round-arched, adorned with rusticated voussoirs, each topped with a carved head as a keystone and flanked by Ionic colonnettes in the reveals. The tall first-floor windows have cambered heads and are topped with open segmental pediments on elongated, enriched consoles, featuring projecting balustraded aprons. The second-floor windows are square-headed and have shouldered architraves.
Additionally, there are good wrought iron railings at the ground floor side windows, and bulbous iron railings with pointed finials along the front of the building.
