Description

Hill Top, located on Lingards Road in Slaithwaite, consists of two houses, Nos 11 and 12, in one range. No 11 dates back to 1733, as indicated by a datestone, and features mid-19th century alterations and additions. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone, with some quoins, and has a pitched stone slate roof, including a coped gable on No 11. It is two storeys high.

On the southeast elevation of No 11, there are two original window openings remaining. To the right of a near-central doorway, which dates from the mid-19th century and has a Tudor arch cut in a deep lintel with a head mould above, there is a 4-light stone mullioned window with a double chamfer, although only the central mullion of this window remains. There is also a former 3-light window to the left, which has been altered with the removal of its mullions, and three similar mid-19th century windows at the first-floor level.

The northwest elevation is obscured by later infill between the house and an adjacent barn. The former northeast gable is now internal, and a date on the door lintel reads MW MW. No 12 is included in the listing for its group value and is predominantly characterized by 3 and 4-light stone mullioned windows, most of which have had their mullions removed and replaced with modern casements.
