Description

The Royd is a house, likely built around 1717 as indicated by a date stone in the garden wall. It has been subsequently subdivided. The house is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof. It is a double-pile building, featuring quoins, two horizontal string courses, a parapet, and ashlar chimney stacks to the ridge and right gable. The façade has 11 bays, irregularly spaced, with a central doorway situated between the 5th and 6th bays. The original windows were double-chamfered cross-windows, but these have lost their mullions and transoms and now contain modern glazing. Ground floor windows in the 3rd and 8th bays have been opened into doorways, although the original doorway retains a shouldered architrave and a triangular pediment. The rear elevation mirrors the front, with irregular fenestration of a similar style and a comparable doorway. A complete cross-window is visible in the south gable.
