Description
Brown Hill is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one, along with an attached barn. This building dates from the early 19th century and consists of two separate constructions. It is made of coursed dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The structure is two storeys high, with each cottage comprising one bay and the barn having two bays. The building has quoins at the corners.
Each cottage has a plain stone surround doorway on the right; the left cottage features a 20th-century pent porch, while the right cottage's doorway is blocked and has a window instead. Both cottages have a three-light flat-faced mullion window on each floor and end stacks. The barn, which is of a different build and located to the right, has a round-arched cart entry on the left, complete with tiestones, voussoirs, and a raised keystone, along with a tall round-arched light above it. On the right end of the barn, there is a mistal door with tiestones. At the rear, there is a straight joint between the barn and the cottages. The windows of the cottages have chamfered jambs, which are likely reused materials. The barn also features a threshing door. On the left return, there is an external stack in the gable, resting on a flat slate. Inside, the barn has queen post trusses with angle braces. The date of construction is reportedly scratched on the chimney stack.
