Description

The engine house at Oats Royd Mill, built in the late 19th century for John Murgatroyd and Sons, is a single-storey structure made of coursed squared stone with a Welsh slate roof and an attached brick chimney. The building measures five bays by one bay, with the chimney located at the east end.

On the south side, there is a doorway with a corbelled pediment to the right of a tall round-arched window, which features rusticated quoins, imposts, and a corbelled arch. To the right of this window, there are three additional tall round-arched windows with projecting cills. The roof is hipped and includes two ridge vents topped with conical caps and finials.

The chimney, positioned on the right, has a square base with rusticated quoins and raised panels, a band, and a broached round section with a collar and dentil cornice. On the left side, there is a half-glazed double door with an overlight and fanlight, flanked by corniced pilasters that support a keyed round arch. This engine house is built adjacent to the weaving sheds, which were constructed in 1887.
