Office Building At Oats Royd Mill

The office building at Oats Royd Mill, built around 1860 for John Murgatroyd and Sons, is now unoccupied. It is constructed from coursed rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical Italianate style facade with three bays across and three bays down. Key architectural features include a plinth, cill bands, and a bracketed eaves cornice. The central entrance consists of a two-panel door with a fanlight, set within a round-arched pilastered surround. This is flanked by pilasters that support an entablature with a dentil cornice and blocking course. On either side of the entrance are sash windows in architraves with console segmental pediments, and above each of these are round-arched sashes in corniced architraves. A later gantry crosses the road and masks the central first-floor opening. The hipped roof has a stack at the left eaves. The rear and side elevations feature round-arched first-floor windows, a blocked doorway in the left return, and a 20th-century glazed porch added to the right return, which is not of special interest.
